Course Title Intermediate Spelling (One Day)
 

AIM:
To introduce spelling strategies to staff who regularly need to write notes and letters, and who want to improve the accuracy of their spelling.

OBJECTIVES:
After the training, attendees should:

  • Feel more confident writing notes and letters, both at work and at home.
  • Be able to decide for themselves whether to follow the advice of the spell check function on the computer.

MAIN COURSE CONTENT:

  • Commonly mis-spelled words
  • Tricky words in everyday use e.g. accommodation; their and there; stationery and stationary (which is which?)
  • Ways of remembering correct spelling
  • Overcoming mental blocks with spelling
  • When to use, and when to ignore the advice of the “spell check” function on your computer!

  • Be able to structure both writing and speech with greater accuracy.

  • Correct sentence structure

  • Correct phrasing
  • Correction of common mistakes
