Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy Statement
SCOLA recognises and respects its duty to ensure that policies and procedures are in place to safeguard vulnerable adults who access its learning or advisory provision.
A vulnerable adult is someone who is 18 years or older, “Who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age or illness: and who is or may be unable to take care of him or herself, or unable to protect him or herself against significant harm or exploitation.” (Law Commission: 1995)
Although someone may not have declared a difficulty and or disability, SCOLA recognises that it is still possible for any person to be regarded as a vulnerable adult.
The aim of this Policy Statement is to affirm that all SCOLA employees and stake holders have awareness and understanding of vulnerability, what constitutes abuse, the procedures for reporting such incidents and the existence of the overarching guidelines which have been developed by the London Borough of Sutton.
