SHINE-BLACK-ON-WHITE-NEWSSHINE, Sutton College’s Hub for Innovation, Networking & Entrepreneurship has now been integrated into mainstream College life, offering opportunities and support for students in a variety of ways.

The new ‘Learn to Earn’ facility has been launched which offers students the opportunity to showcase and sell their work and skills via a pop up shop in the College.

It is a chance for them to access the rest of the student body and sell items such as jewellery, art or services such as manicures etc.

There are three packages available, ranging from a basic presence in the busiest reception at the College through to links to the College social media promotion.

This is a great opportunity for students to raise the profile of perhaps a small business they are just starting up or to trial a business idea. Full information can be found here

Students also have the opportunity to exhibit their creative work in the recently revamped Starkey Gallery on the first floor at the Sutton College Sutton Centre. External exhibiting artists will also display their works, offering a new lease of life to the Starkey Gallery area and an exciting programme of exhibitions.

A Business Conference, took place in June 2015, which brought together local businesses providing bite size sessions on inspiring, innovative topics, delivered by local experts. Full information can be found here


History of the SHINE Initiative

The SHINE (Sutton College Hub for Innovation, Networking & Entrepreneurship) initiative was set up in November 2012 as part of a collaborative project with the London Borough of Sutton (LBS) and the Outer London Fund project.

Working in partnership with LBS, SHINE offered businesses the opportunity to access a range of business support measures in a professional environment. Local businesses of all types and stages participated in the scheme, from growing enterprises to entrepreneurs with ideas.

Based from our North Cheam centre, a full programme of one off business support seminars was developed to run throughout the year with nearly 200 attendees since the initiative started. The seminars were delivered by local entrepreneurs, area experts and business people.

Seminars offered included:

Building Resilience, Positive Psychology, Leadership and Management, Social Media & Marketing for new businesses and Building business confidence you and your product
